Fieldwork/Ecology-Based Green Labs

I noticed that most Green Lab programs, as well as my own, focus on labs that conduct work inside the laboratory. However, we have plenty of fieldwork-based labs researching wildlife and marine animals that would like to certify, but most of the credits in green lab certifications simply don't apply.

Does anyone have any recommendations for addressing this? How can I better support researchers who are mainly conducting fieldwork but want to be involved in sustainability?

Hello Carlie, this is a great question, thanks for posing it to the green labs community. Certainly there are steps that can be taken while doing field research to reduce the environmental impact of your work - they of course just look a little different than people working in lab environments. I found this paper on Research Gate, where I could download the full text version, and have attached it here for you as a start. It discusses some field work done in Costa Rica, and outlines some recommendations for leave no trace in the field. I work for My Green Lab, and our My Green Lab Certification program does have a field research component: https://www.mygreenlab.org/green-lab-certification.html We have certainly worked with field-research based scientific groups in the past, primarily in academia!

Is this topic something that comes up at scientific conferences in the wildlife/marine mammal communities? I am simply curious if it is being discussed much yet.
